About[]

Lemonade is the first single and third track off of Heart Shaped Bed by Nicole Dollanganger. It was released as a single on October 9, 2018, along with a music video.

Background[]

A demo version of Lemonade was first released by Dollanganger on an EP titled Greta Gibson Forever in 2015. The demo version samples audio from the movie Edward Scissorhands of the character Joyce asking, "Wouldn't you like a nice, cool glass of lemonade?"

The demo appears as track one on Heart Shaped Bed demos, b sides. It was reworked and includes piano performed by Scott Downes.

Music Video[]

The music video was filmed in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania and features Trapped Under Ice's frontman Justice Tripp. It was directed by Mac Boucher and Dollanganger. Dollanganger said in an email to The Fader: "I always thought of 'Lemonade' as an evil song hiding under a soft sound, so I wanted its video counterpart to be something darker, but still through the gaze of the same scorned lovers. We shot in these very delicate and beautiful ruins we’d happened across accidentally, and it was an all around strange experience, but I think something very cool was captured."

Lyrics[]

I’ve been home all day
My husband’s gone, they all say
He’s got a girl on the side
While I stay home all day

So I make lemonade
Put on a dress and I go lay
Out in the dayroom
And I wait for you
To come on over
And give it to me

In the backyard full of dying flowers
In the kitchen on the pale, pink counter
Give you a lap dance outside in a lawn chair
Drinking lemonade and playing with my hair

I’ve been home all day
My husband’s gone, don’t need to worry
Take you upstairs to the swan bed
Let you fuck me hard as you can

The next time he kisses me
I want him to taste red ruby lips
And the love we made
And the lemonade
So come on over
And give it to me

In the backyard full of dying flowers
In the kitchen on the pale, pink counter
Give you a lap dance outside in a lawn chair
Drinking lemonade and playing with my hair
